SUMMARY:Downtown Wonderland
DESCRIPTION:Minerva’s Downtown Wonderland Christmas celebration will kick off with the Christmas parade at 3 pm on Saturday\, Dec. 1. The parade begins at Minerva Elementary School\, proceeds up Bonnieview to Line Street to North Market Street\, ending at Rt. 30. Following the parade\, Treat Trees\, sponsored by area businesses and organizations with line the sidewalks\, covered with treats for kids to take. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in the Roxy Theatre\, hearing wishes and posing for free photos. Elsewhere downtown will be cookie decorating\, a take-your-own photo booth\, bowling\, face painting\, roasting marshmallows with Minerva’s firefighters\, an ice-carving demonstration\, a make-and-take ornament\, a live Nativity\, live music\, hot cocoa\, coffee\, punch\, and sales and drawings in downtown businesses. There will be a free raffle and\, at 6 pm\, one child will win a sled full of gifts and the opportunity to light the village Christmas tree. There will be caroling at the tree\, which will be located next to the big cow\, at 5:45 pm\, before the drawing. All kids are invited to help count down to the lighting and to be part of a group photo with Santa at the tree.

DESCRIPTION:Minerva’s Roxy Theatre will host “Over There: The Music of World War I\,” a concert performed by the Joseph Rubin Orchestra on Friday\, Nov. 9\, 7:30 pm\, in commemoration of the centennial of the Armistice\, Nov. 11\, 1918. The Roxy performance will be the only performance of this concert in Stark County\, and is sponsored by ArtsinStark\, Mapes State Farm Insurance\, and Minerva Community Charitable Fund.\n\n“Over There” will feature familiar songs such as “Over There\,” “K-K-K Katy\,” “Smiles\,” “How Ya Gonna Keep ‘em Down on the Farm\,” “Goodby Broadway\, Hello France\,” and more in their original orchestrations by the 12-piece Joseph Rubin Orchestra and vocalist Heidi Swinford. Rubin is an expert on American popular music and specializes in “living history” concerts and recreating the music of 1880-1949 in a historically accurate manner. He is the curator of the Ted Lewis Museum\, and the founder of the Canton Comic Opera Co.\n\nTickets for the concert are $20 each or two for $35\, and are available at the Chamber office or on www.eventbrite.com.

DESCRIPTION:Minerva’s ninth annual Oktoberfest will be held Saturday\, Sept. 29\, noon-7 pm\, in Municipal Park\, featuring live music\, food\, a beer garden\, games and contests for all ages\, fine crafts\, kids’ activities\, including pony rides\, a petting zoo\, pumpkin painting\, crafts\, a hay-bale maze\, a bounce house\, and more; panning for gold with the Gold Prospectors Association\, a free hayride\, and more! Bands performing will include White Buffalo Woman and The Scenic Route. New this year will be the Lost French Gold Craft Beer Motherlode\, with 16 of the region’s finest craft breweries offering tastes of a wide variety of hand-crafted beers. Admission to the motherlode will be $30 presale and $35 at the gate\, and includes a 5-ounce glass\, 10 samples\, and guide to the breweries and their beers. Breweries will include Sandy Springs Brewing Company\, Missing Mountain Brewing Co.\, Millersburg Brewing Company\, Muskellunge Brewing Company\, Birdfish Brewing Co.\, Paradigm Shift Brewing\, Royal Docks Brewing Co.\, Shale Brewing Company\, Magic City Brewing Company\, HiHO Brewing Company\, Hoppin’ Frog Brewery\, Maize Valley Winery & Craft Brewery\, Lockport Brewery\, Akronym Brewing\, Canton Brewing Company\, and Headtrip Brewery.
