DESCRIPTION:The fifth annual Minerva Chamber Rodeo comes to Minerva’s Municipal Park on Saturday\, Aug. 6\, with activities for the whole family. \nChildren’s activities will begin at 3 p.m.\, with pony rides\, a petting zoo\, stick-horse making and other crafts in the pavilion next to the arena\, and food and commercial vendors. \nSignups for kids’ rodeo events\, sponsored by Minerva Area YMCA and Minerva Rotary Club\, will take place in the pavilion\, beginning at 3 p.m.\, and stick-horse races\, followed by preliminaries for mutton busting\, will happen in the arena\, beginning at 5 p.m. In mutton busting\, children weighing 50 pounds or less compete to see who can stay on the back of a sheep the longest. Helmets and vests are provided. \nThe rodeo\, presented by Buckeye Rodeo Company\, begins at 7 p.m. In addition to bull riding\, sponsored by Route 30 Buckeye Bargains; bareback bronc riding\, NAPA Auto Parts/Minerva; saddle bronc riding\, Great Trail Golf Course; tie down roping\, Kiko Company; team roping\, Uptown Auto Service; steer wrestling\, Gionino’s Pizzeria; barrel racing\, Creations by Faith; and breakaway roping\, Straight A’s Arena; the mutton busting finals and the calf scramble for kids will take place. \nFollowing the rodeo\, at 9 p.m.\, the Minerva Firefighter’s Association will sponsor a free concert by country band 77 South on the stage. The firefighter’s association will also provide a beer garden throughout the day until 11 p.m. \nPresale tickets can be purchased through Aug. 5 at Kishman’s IGA in Minerva and Malvern\, Loudon Motors Ford\, Gionino’s Pizzeria in Minerva\, the Minerva Area YMCA\, Consumers National Bank – Minerva Branch\, Huebner Chevrolet/Subaru in Carrollton\, and the Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce\, or online at minervarodeo.eventbrite.com. \nPresale tickets are $12 for age 12 and older\, $7 for ages 6-11\, and free for age 5 and younger. DESCRIPTION:This event will feature the music of Ireland and Scotland\, from traditional to contemporary\, performed on pipes\, bouzouki\, fiddle\, penny whistle\, guitar\, bodhran\, and vocals. \nPerformers will include traditional Irish band Bealtaine from Pittsburgh\, which is Conor Freeland\, George White\, and Bill Buchko\, George Smith of the Carnegie Mellon Pipe Band\, Tom Freeland\, Jim GraySmith\, Kaitlyn GraySmith\, Andrew McNutt\, and Amie Hill Fankhauser.  Harpist? Dancers? \nBaked goods\, including Scottish shortbread\, scones\, whiskey cake\, Irish dairy cake\, and double fudge Irish cream cookies\, will be available by donation\, and chances will be available for a Celtic raffle basket. \nAll proceeds will benefit improvements at the Roxy\, which is currently undergoing renovations.
